There are several routes to reach The Living Room, which is home to several rock "lazy boys" and "couches". The Living Room Trail is a short, fairly steep, but moderately easy hike to a great viewpoint on Red Butte overlooking the Salt Lake Valley. At the viewpoint, you'll see "furniture" created by other hikers out of the large flat sandstone slabs. There are several "chairs" and "couches" complete with armrests and ottomans. Best Time to Hike the Living Room Trail: The best time to hike this trail is in the spring for the wildflowers, or in the fall for the fall colors. I did this hike in early July in the early morning (8am) and once at the top there were a few wildflowers left and a nice breeze at the top. Hike the Living Room. The Living Room Hiking Trail This is SLC-initiation by a little bit trick to find trail. However, lots of people find this place because it's a cool place for the college kids to spend a weekend evening—no parents! The trailhead is near the Natural History Museum of Utah, just off the Bonneville Shoreline Trail. Head up towards the mouth of. The Living Room Loop is a 2.8 mile moderately trafficked loop trail located near Salt Lake City, Utah that features beautiful wild flowers and is rated as moderate. The trail is primarily used for hiking, running, nature trips, and bird watching and is best used from March until October. Dogs are also able to use this trail but must be kept on leash. The hike was easy to start on the bottom and there are several different route (but all route leads to the main route, I suppose). It does get steep here and there but isn't that what makes it a good hiking challenge. The hike is popular for it's rock looking like living room furniture hence the name of the trail, lol. The Living Room Trail was a blast! My wife and I started out around 9-10am and easily made our way up to the fantastic view of Salt Lake City.
